Development of Music

As the Albany State University music program continues to expand and develop, a need has arisen for experiences beyond the everyday structure of courses, rehearsals, and performances. Our new Music Learning Community is a vital and exciting addition to the opportunities presented by this outstanding group of students and faculty. The fact that most of our ASU music majors are enrolled in either the same or similar courses during their first two years of study helps to create a ready-made cohort of students who share the same learning goals. The cross-disciplinary insights and diverse opportunities fostered by working in a community of learners will serve students with skills above and beyond those they obtain in the classroom. This community will study together, have the opportunity for tutoring and listening sessions, form discussion groups, and attend cultural performances. Our learning community will enhance the potential of our music students to be successful in their course work, as well as improving their GACE exam scores. This will help to increase the number of our students who are accepted into graduate school, and also help us to continue to recruit outstanding music majors.
