Albany State Golden Rams announce two-year football schedules
     Albany State University athletic administrators have announced the 2009 and 2010 Golden Rams football Homecoming dates.
     The Golden Rams will celebrate Homecoming ‘09 on Saturday, Sept. 26, against the Benedict College Tigers, ASU Athletics Director Joshua Murfree, Jr. announced Friday morning. The Homecoming game will kickoff at 2 p.m. at the Albany Municipal Coliseum.
     Murfree also announced the 2010 date, which is set for Saturday, Oct. 9, against the Miles College Golden Bears at 2 p.m.
     “Our 2009 and 2010 tentative schedules were released last year. We wanted our fans to have a jump start on planning for our football events,” Murfree said. “We are excited about the upcoming season and promise another season of great Golden Ram football action.”
     The Golden Rams, who finished the 2008 season at 7-4, will kickoff the season on Aug. 29 against the Shaw University Bears in Raleigh, N.C. Week two of ASU football action continues as the Golden Rams start SIAC play in their home debut against the Kentucky State University Thorobreds at 7 p.m. The Rams will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Sept. 12 to play the Stillman College Tigers and, after an open weekend on Sept. 19, will return home on Sept. 26 to celebrate Homecoming against the Benedict College Tigers. Kickoff for the Homecoming game is 2 p.m.
     The Rams will hit the road for three back-to-back road games against the Lane College Dragons in Jackson, Tenn. on Oct. 3; Miles College Golden Bears in Birmingham, Ala., on Oct. 10; and the Clark Atlanta University Panthers in Atlanta, Ga., on Oct. 17. The Golden Rams return home on Oct. 24 to battle the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers and the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers on Oct. 31. Both games are set for 2 p.m.
     Albany State will travel to Columbus, Ga., for the regular season finale against the Fort Valley State University Wildcats on Nov. 7 in the 20th Annual Fountain City Classic. Kickoff for the classic is 2 p.m. at A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium.
     Ticket information for the 2009 season will be announced at a later date.
     ASU’s 2010 schedule includes a road game against Kentucky State on Aug. 28, a home game against Clark Atlanta on Sept. 11, and a road game at Tuskegee on Sept. 18. The Golden Rams are also slated to play home games against Lane on Oct. 2 and Miles on Oct. 9 for Homecoming ’10. ASU will hit the road for games against Benedict on Oct. 16 and Morehouse on Oct. 23. ASU will face Stillman in its final home game on Oct. 30, before facing Fort Valley in the 21st Fountain City Classic game. The Golden Rams will schedule another opponent later to complete the 10-game slate.
