It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Department of History, Political Science and Public Administration web-page at Albany State University, Albany, Georgia. The Department is ready to build upon a proud past. What has long been so good at Albany State University will never be abandoned: academic excellence, honesty, deep concern for values – marked by rigor and imagination, a sense of joy both of work and of play. Those were – and those are – the strengths of ASU’s Department of History, Political Science and Public Administration. Our responsibility is to create new ways to use those strengths to meet present and emerging challenges.

Within the liberal arts curriculum, the Department of History, Political Science and Public Administration offers bachelor degrees in History and Political Science and the Master of Public Administration Degree. The department supports the curricula of other departments through the provision of courses in history, government, geography, philosophy and social sciences. Minor programs are offered in History, Political Science, Legal Studies, Public Administration and International Affairs. Each minor program consists of 18 semester hours beyond the core requirements.

Our undergraduate and graduate students come from different parts of the world, as do our academic visitors and outstanding faculty. There is no doubt that when a University attracts eager students from different parts of the world, students with different backgrounds, and different values, excitement is generated in their coming together.

The faculty, like the student body, is cosmopolitan. The members display a significant range of opinion and philosophy, founded at many of our nation’s leading universities. Over 90% of the faculty in this department have received an earned doctorate, while 10% have professional degrees within their respective fields. The University is fully accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Master of Public Administration program also holds National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA) accreditation.
