Michael D. Martin, Ph.D.

Michael D. Martin has been on the faculty here at ASU since August 1999. He directs the University Symphonic Band and teaches courses in music appreciation, music history, musical form and analysis, brass methods, instrumental methods, music technology, and applied horn. Martin holds a B.M. ed. and a M.M. in music history from Youngstown State University (Ohio), and a Ph. D. in music education from Kent State University (Ohio). He has over ten years experience as a school band director in western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. He has several publications to his credit including two pieces (pasodobles) for concert band published by TRN Music Publishers of Ruidoso, New Mexico, and articles on band education history in the Journal of Band Research and the Journal of Historical Research in Music Education. In addition, Martin has played French horn with various professional and amateur groups in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. He has served as a guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Georgia.
