Sit-In at the Arctic Bear In the fall, Annette Jones, Yvonne Taylor, and Calila Bailey chose to sit-in at the "Whites Only" outdoor tables at the Arctic Bear drive-in restaurant at the corner of Slappey and Oglethorpe Boulevards. In 1959 Jones, Bailey, and Taylor were Albany State College students. Jones was a member of the NAACP Youth Council.
Hazard Drive Harassment At Albany State College, White men drove down Hazard Drive, a main thorough fair that went through the middle of campus, harassing students by yelling racial epithets and throwing bags of urine, ice, and rotten eggs.
Invasion at McIntosh Hall Dormitory security at McIntosh Hall, a women's building, was an issue when White men began entering at night and were found wondering the hallways. Many of the students were unnerved when security made no efforts to stop these occurrences. Many demanded that locks be put on the doors.
