Albany State University Graduate School Application Instructions

Graduate Admission Requirements


Read these instructions carefully before making application for the Graduate School. The official provisions concerning graduate applications and admission are presented in the Albany State University Catalog. The information given here is designed to facilitate the orderly submission and processing of applications and other materials.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

  1. APPLICATION FORM
    The Application for Admission to the Graduate School at Albany State University form must be completed by all applicants for graduate study. No materials can be acknowledged as received until the completed application form has been received in the Office of the Graduate School.
  2. APPLICATION FEE
    An application fee of $20.00 must be submitted by applicants who have never been admitted to the Graduate School at Albany State University. Applicants who have previously applied to the University and submitted the application fee need not do so again. However, applicants applying for a second Master’s or Specialist degree must submit another fee. Cashier’s checks or money orders should be made payable to Albany State University. (PLEASE DO NOT SEND CASH) The application fee is nonrefundable and does not apply toward registration fees.
  3. TRANSCRIPT
    One official transcript must be received directly from the Registrar of each institution attended, including Albany State University. Transcripts received become the property of Albany State University. They are not returnable or transferable to other institutions or departments.
  4. The enclosed chart outlines the specific supporting materials required for each program area. Each applicant must make individual arrangements concerning the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), Miller Analogies Test (MAT), or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) directly with the respective testing services.
    Arrangements must be made at least four weeks in advance of most test dates. The test should be taken as soon as possible in advance of the desired date of entry. An information Bulletin on the required examination may be obtained from the Counseling, Testing and Disability Service Office by calling (229) 430-4667 or the Computer-Based Testing Center by calling (229) 430-1631.
    Letters of Recommendation are required by all programs.
  5. Additional Requirements for Foreign Applicants
    • Scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) must be
      submitted by foreign applicants whose native language is other than English.
    • The Foreign Student Statement of Financial Responsibility must be completed and returned before a Form I-20 can be issued.
  6. Non-Degree or Transient Status (Refer to bottom lines of enclosed chart)

APPLICATION DEADLINES


It is the responsibility of the applicant to see that all materials are submitted by the deadline. Please allow ample time for application materials to be compiled and sent through the mail.

International students applying from abroad must have application, fee, and supporting documents on file in the Graduate School two months prior to the beginning date of the semester for which they seek admission.

Applicants will be notified in writing of the decision by the Graduate School within a reasonable
period of time, following receipt of all application materials.

NOTE: In order to receive any Financial Aid, your admit status must be Regular/Provisional or you must be completing certification requirements in all areas
except Educational Leadership and School Counseling. All financial aid questions must be directed to the Financial Aid Office at 229-430-4050.
