Title III of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, Strengthening Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Program, authorizes a program of special assistance to strengthen the quality of these institutions. Funded by the U. S. Department of Education, Title IIIB is one of many initiatives funded by the federal government as part of a mission to ensure equal access to education and to promote educational excellence for all Americans. This program provides financial assistance to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to establish or strengthen their physical plants, financial management, academic resources, and endowment-building capacity.
The 2012-2017 Title III funding at Albany State University will be directly aligned with the ASU 2012-2017 Strategic Plan. The overarching goal for implementation of these activities is to increase student enrollment, progression, retention, and graduation rates and to increase the capacity of the institution to provide and manage resources (financial and human) that facilitate quality service to all customers.
The ASU Title III Program aims to strengthen the infrastructure of the University and to enhance the delivery of academic programs while developing students from freshmen to senior year. The implementation of these activities will increase enrollments, progression, retention and graduation rates at Albany State University.
