ASU Theatre Ensemble Presents Ruined, by Lynn Nottage @ ASU West Campus Theatre
Mar 16 @ 7:30 pm

Ruined, by Lynn Nottage, takes place in the Democratic Republic of Congo in a rain forest bar and brothel.  The play focuses on the female characters who have learned to metaphorically dance around the male characters to ensure their survival. The cunning leader of the men and the women is the shrewd matriarch Mama Nadi who both profits and exploits all who enter her establishment. The play, which won the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for drama, was commissioned by Chicago’s Goodman Theater, one of the more prominent regional theater companies in the U.S.  This play was written after the playwright’s visit to the Congo, and after her numerous interviews with Congolese women and soldiers affected by the civil war.
