Albany State University Title III Program

About Title III Program

Title III of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as a mended, Strengthening Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Program, authorizes a program of special assistance to strengthen the quality of these institutions. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Title III B is one of many initiatives funded by the federal government as part of a mission to ensure equal access to education and to promote educational excellence for all Americans. The program provides financial assistance to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to establish or strengthen their physical plants, financial management, academic resources and endowment building capacity.

Title III funding is directly aligned with the ASU Strategic Plan. The overarching goal for implementation of these activities is to increase student enrollment, progression, retention, and graduation rates and to increase the capacity of the institution to provide and manage resources (financial and human) that facilitate quality service to all customers. Additionally, funds are used to strengthen academic programs including online course development and professional development of both faculty and staff, enhance enrollment management, advance business and academic technology, and build the University's capacity to recruit and receipt external funds.
