School Counseling Admission Process

 Requirements Specific to the
M.Ed. School Counseling Program
 
The School Counseling program accepts applications for Summer, Fall, and Spring admission. All applicants must complete an interview with an interview committee and a writing statement. The writing sample is completed at the interview. Applicants who have not passed the GACE I examination or who do not have GRE/MAT scores may be admitted provisionally but must provide passing scores by the end of their first semester of enrollment. Applicants do not have to be certified teachers to gain admission to the program.
 
Degree Seeking Candidates:
 
Regular admission to the graduate school requires that the applicant
·      Applicants must have an undergraduate grade point average of 2.8 or better;
·      A minimum score of 44 on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) or 800 on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE);
·      Passing scores on the Georgia Assessment of Content for Educators (GACE) test of Basic Skills or documented exemption from this requirement as indicated by one of the following (1000 combined Math and Verbal score on the SAT; a combined Math and Verbal score of 44 on the ACT; a Master’s degree from an accredited college or University as approved by the GAPSC; or the Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker credential granted by the Georgia Composite Board of Examiners).

Provisional admission applicants must
·      Hold an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited institution with an undergraduate grade point average of 2.2;
·      A minimum score of 32 on the MAT or a minimum score of 700 on the GRE.
·      Passing scores on the Georgia Assessment of Content for Educators (GACE) test of Basic Skills or documented exemption from this requirement as indicated by one of the following (1000 combined Math and Verbal score on the SAT; a combined Math and Verbal score of 44 on the ACT; a Master’s degree from an accredited college or University as approved by the GAPSC; or the Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker credential granted by the Georgia Composite Board of Examiners).

 Certification (Non-Degree Seeking) Candidates:
 
Add-On Certification
·      Applicants must have evidence of Georgia educator certification
·      Master’s degree in an educational field

Certification Only
·      Master’s degree in counseling or a closely related field
·      Passing scores on the Georgia Assessment of Content for Educators (GACE) test of Basic Skills or documented exemption from this requirement as indicated by one of the following (1000 combined Math and Verbal score on the SAT; a combined Math and Verbal score of 44 on the ACT; a Master’s degree from an accredited college or University as approved by the GAPSC; or the Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker credential granted by the Georgia Composite Board of Examiners).

Readmission
 Students who were previously enrolled and have not been in attendance for one or more semesters must apply through the admissions office for readmission.
