Commencement Spotlight: Jessica Nicole Anaya
Master of Education with a major in Elementary Education
Pre-K Teacher, J.M. Odom Elementary
Jessica Nicole Anaya, a 27-year-old native of Moultrie, Georgia, will graduate on
May 10 with a Master’s in Elementary Education from the Albany State University College
of Business, Education, and Professional Studies. 
Anaya, who has been in the field of education for five years and currently serves as a Pre-K teacher, is also the head coach for the Colquitt County Middle School girls’ soccer team. Under her leadership, the team earned the Region Runner-Up title in 2024 and clinched the Region Championship in 2025.
During her time as a graduate student, Anaya participated in a mission trip to Belize, where she engaged in meaningful community service that further enriched her educational journey.
Following graduation, Anaya plans to pursue a specialist degree at Albany State University to continue advancing her career in education. She has secured a position at J.M. Odom Elementary in her hometown of Moultrie, Georgia.
Her commitment to education, both in and out of the classroom, reflects Albany State University’s mission to develop graduates who are well-prepared to make a positive impact in their communities.
What motivated you to learn more about your field?
My love and passion for my students.

The amazing advisors and the great and manageable program.
What do you love most about your chosen profession?
The relationships I create with my students each year will last for many years to
come.
Who has made the biggest impact on you, and who do you consider to be a role model
at ASU?
Dr. Bettie Stafford. She has always made sure to push and encourage me to try my best
and never give up on myself.
What is your favorite memory from your time at ASU?
The amazing study abroad trip to Puerto Rico with the School of Education.
What advice would you give to other ASU students?
Do not take a break, keep going. Never give up on your goals and dreams.
What would you say to a high school student about choosing ASU to further their education?
ASU has been a great school that has supported me throughout my educational journey.
I felt connected to my school and the campus despite being a nontraditional online
student because ASU does a great job of communicating and keeping students involved.
I felt honored and celebrated for all my accomplishments, such as my pinning ceremony
and bachelor’s degree ceremony, and my career placement.
