Her community service extends beyond the classroom. Greene has volunteered with the City of Albany’s Juneteenth Celebration, the Albany Fire Department, the Albany Dougherty Stash the Trash Clean Up, and Mt. Following graduation, she will continue her studies at Albany State University in the Master of Social Work program. What motivated you to learn more about your field?

I was motivated to learn more about the field of Social Work because of my desire to be a genuine person who exudes compassion, competence, and knowledge. I aim to inspire others to believe in themselves and their ability to improve their lives. The joy of giving another person hope and building trusting relationships so that they can conquer life challenges and achieve a better life is unparalleled.

Why did you choose ASU?

I chose Albany State University because it is an accredited Historically Black College in my hometown that is geared toward excellence. The classroom teacher-to-student ratio allows for a more personable learning environment. Additionally, my family, including my mother graduated from ASU.

What do you love most about your chosen profession?

I love that social work is about compassion and service to help individuals live better lives. We serve as advocates, cheerleaders, motivators, and educators, benefiting others mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, socially, and culturally.

Who has made the biggest impact on you, and who do you consider to be a role model at ASU?

Dr. Daniel made the biggest impact on me. However, I consider Mrs. Quandula Wright to be a role model at ASU. These instructors challenged me and taught me how to perfect my talents and gain knowledge to be an effective and knowledgeable Social Worker.

What is your favorite memory from your time at ASU? My favorite memory at ASU is singing with the “Renowned” Albany State Gospel Choir. There was wonderful fellowship and unity within the choir, and we went on tours spreading the gospel and love through music.

What advice would you give to other ASU students?

There will be times when you feel overwhelmed in the moment, but remember you are not alone on this journey.  It is essential to practice self-care because you are worth it. Stay focused on your career goals and avoid distractions. You came here to win, and with perseverance and dedication, you will achieve your aspirations.

What would you say to a high school student about choosing ASU to further their education? Albany State University is more than brick and mortar polished in blue and gold. It is a community of professors who are dedicated to the cultivation of each student. They will challenge you, but if you want to be in an environment where you matter and are not just a student, ASU is the place for you.  There are so many opportunities waiting just for you.
