Nia Kimbro, a 25-year-old native of Stockbridge, Ga., will graduate on May 10 with
a Master of Science in Nursing - Family Nurse Practitioner from the Albany State University
Darton College of Health Professions.
During her time at ASU, Kimbro demonstrated a strong commitment to both campus and community engagement. She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. As an undergraduate student, she served as president of P3, led the Velma Fudge Grant Honors Council, and participated in the Anointed ASU Gospel Choir and the Student Government Association.
Kimbro extended her passion for service beyond the campus, volunteering with community programs through Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and tutoring youth at the YMCA.

Her research, titled "Hypertension Education Amongst College-Aged Students: A Quantitative Study," reflects her dedication to improving healthcare awareness among young adults.
In addition to her academic and service achievements, Kimbro works as a neurology nurse at Piedmont Hospital and has received job offers in both primary care and women’s health, where she plans to begin her career as a family nurse practitioner following graduation.
What motivated you to learn more about your field?
As a black woman, I wanted to contribute as much as I could to closing the gap of
health disparities within the black community.
Why did you choose ASU?
ASU at the time was the only HBCU in Georgia with a nursing program. I also fell in
love with the family-like atmosphere that ASU provides.
What do you love most about your chosen profession?
I love that I can treat individuals and help them obtain their optimal health status
and feel the best that they ever have.
Who has made the biggest impact on you, and who do you consider to be a role model
at ASU?
Ms. Shayla Taylor, my role model, has made the biggest impact on me at Albany State.
She is the epitome of ASU excellence.
What is your favorite memory from your time at ASU?
My favorite memory was being a member of p3 and welcoming in the freshmen during welcome
week in 2019.
What advice would you give to other ASU students?
Don’t let one bad test discourage you. Take it day by day and stay the course. You
will reach the finish line before you know it. Bask in the daily moments because college
will soon be a distant memory.
What would you say to a high school student about choosing ASU to further their education?
ASU prepares you to be the best professional you can be. You will also truly find your forever friends/family (Ramily) here.
