What motivated you to learn more about your field?
Healthcare has always been more than a career path for me—it’s a true calling. Serving
others, especially in their most vulnerable moments, is where I find purpose. There’s
something deeply fulfilling about offering compassionate, holistic care when someone
needs it most. It’s what drives me every day and keeps me coming back with the commitment
to provide the best care possible.
Why did you choose ASU?
I chose Albany State University because of its powerful motto, ‘Excellence is the Standard.’ I wanted to attend a post-secondary institution that would not only challenge me
academically, but also inspire me to live up to a higher standard in everything I
do. Being part of a community that values excellence has shaped me into a more driven,
purposeful, and resilient individual.
What are your post-graduation plans?
After graduation I plan to continue working in my career, keeping God first, continuing
my education with strong plans and pride to receive my doctorate degree before the
age of 25.
What do you love most about your chosen profession?
There’s no greater reward than seeing my patients satisfied with the care I’ve provided.
Knowing that I’ve done everything within my power to ensure every aspect of their
well-being is addressed brings me a deep sense of fulfillment. It’s moments like these
that remind me why I chose this profession—to make a meaningful difference, one patient
at a time.
Who has made the biggest impact on you, and who do you consider to be a role model
at ASU?
Although my time at Albany State University has been brief—beginning in 2023, shortly
after graduating high school—it has already been filled with meaningful connections
and impactful experiences. I’ve had the privilege of learning from many influential
individuals, especially within the outstanding Nursing faculty. Among them, Mrs. Kernice
Battle Jones has had the greatest influence on me. Her guidance, support, and leadership
have left a lasting impression. I also hold Jennifer Hyer in the highest regard—she
is someone I truly consider a role model, both professionally and personally.
I also hold Dr.'s - Daphine Mathis, Belinda Gilbert, Seketha Silas, & Jennifer Hyer in the highest regard—they are each someone I truly consider a role model, both professionally and personally.
What is your favorite memory from your time at ASU?
One of my favorite memories at Albany State University has been leading the Nursing
Student Organization in hosting various community drives. As president, it’s been
incredibly rewarding to unite fellow nursing students around a shared purpose—giving
back to the community. These moments have not only deepened our impact beyond the
classroom but also reinforced the true heart of nursing: service, compassion, and
leadership.
What advice would you give to other ASU students?
The advice I would give to any current or prospective student at Albany State University
is this: know your why—and let it fuel everything you do. Your why will anchor you during tough moments and propel you forward when things get challenging.
The journey won’t always be easy, but it is absolutely possible. Remember, people
in even more difficult circumstances have overcome incredible odds, and I have no
doubt that you will too. Stay focused, stay resilient, and never forget the purpose
that brought you here. And always hold onto this truth: ‘If God be for you, who can be against you?’ — Romans 8:31.
