What motivated you to learn more about your field?
As educators, we are lifelong learners. I chose to learn more about my field because
I believe it is essential for teachers to engage in ongoing professional development—staying
informed about current practices, such as the Science of Reading, as well as deepening
our understanding of foundational theoretical concepts.
Why did you choose ASU?
I chose Albany State University for graduate school due to the positive and enriching
experience I had as an undergraduate student. Many of the professors who taught my
undergraduate courses also led the majority of my graduate classes, creating a familiar
and supportive academic environment that enhanced my comfort and confidence throughout
the program.
What do you love most about your chosen profession?
One of the things I love most about my profession is witnessing the growth and development
of my students from August to May. It's much like planting a garden—each child begins
as a tiny seed, and through daily care, support, and encouragement, they flourish
into confident, capable learners.
Who has made the biggest impact on you, and who do you consider to be a role model
at ASU?
During my time at ASU, Dr. Medlin, Dr. Mosely, Dr. Stafford, and Dr. Medlock had the
most significant impact on my academic and professional journey. I consider each of
them to be exemplary role models who greatly influenced my growth as an educator.
What is your favorite memory from your time at ASU?
One of my favorite memories from my time at ASU was speaking to future educators during
the Educator’s Summit. While at the Educator’s Summit I had the opportunity to share
insight and advice about what to expect when entering the classroom.
What advice would you give to other ASU students?
The advice I would offer to fellow ASU students is to cherish every moment of your
college experience. Take advantage of opportunities to get involved by joining organizations,
building connections, and stepping outside of your comfort zone—those moments often
lead to the most personal and professional growth.
What would you say to a high school student about choosing ASU to further their education?
I would highly encourage high school students to consider ASU as their choice for
higher education. The university fosters strong connections between students and faculty,
creating a supportive environment that extends beyond the classroom and sets the foundation
for both academic and professional success.
