What sport do you participate in at Albany State University and what is your position?
Women's Tennis, I play doubles and singles at the number 1 position.

What was it about ASU that drew you in and made it the perfect fit for you?
I truly appreciated the support from the athletics department at ASU. The camaraderie with my teammates played a significant role in my decision to stay at ASU after transferring. Additionally, I enjoy the competitive spirit across all sports at ASU, which is challenging yet does not place undue pressure on the athletes.

What inspired you to participate in your sport, and how has your passion evolved over time?
I started playing tennis at the age of five, and upon graduating from high school, I was eager to continue my passion for the sport while also prioritizing my education. College tennis presented the perfect opportunity to achieve both goals. Additionally, securing a tennis scholarship to cover my college tuition allowed me to pursue my academic and athletic aspirations simultaneously.

Can you share a memorable moment in your athletic career that made you feel truly proud?
I remember being 12 years old when I was selected to represent Great Britain at an international event in Italy. It was one of the first times I truly understood the opportunities tennis could offer me.

During my college career, a standout moment was when I won Player of the Year for the first time. It felt like a validation of all my hard work throughout the season, and it was incredibly rewarding to see that effort culminate in such a significant achievement.

Balancing academics and athletics can be challenging. How do you manage your time between practice, games, schoolwork and your hobbies? At the start of the year, I receive my game and practice schedule, which helps me plan my academics and personal activities. I do my homework in the mornings before practice, freeing up my afternoons and evenings for hobbies and relaxation. I also keep weekends mostly work-free to recharge, ensuring a balance between school, sports, and personal time.

How has your team and/or coach impacted your growth as both an athlete and an individual? My coach has been exceptionally supportive and maintains an open line of communication with me. I feel comfortable sharing anything with her, knowing she's always available to talk, day or night. Her unwavering support has been a cornerstone of my development both on and off the court.

As the team captain this year, I've found that leading my team has profoundly impacted me as an athlete. It's an honor to be someone my teammates trust to guide them. This role has not only taught me about leadership but has also deepened my commitment to our collective success and my personal growth in the sport.

How do you stay motivated during tough times or when facing obstacles in your sport, academics, or everyday life?Being far from home certainly fuels my motivation, as I reflect on the many sacrifices my parents and I made to get to where I am today. I constantly remind myself that not many people have the same opportunities, and I strive not to take this for granted.

Additionally, when I feel overwhelmed, I turn to meditation to clear my mind and enhance my clarity of thought. This practice has been instrumental in helping me maintain focus and balance in my life.

What advice would you give to other student-athletes that are looking to attend ASU?For student-athletes considering ASU, dive into both academics and athletics to make the most of your college journey. Build strong connections with your coaches and teammates, find a balance between sports and studies, and take advantage of the diverse extracurriculars and resources that will help you grow personally and professionally. Embrace all ASU has to offer—it’s the key to a rewarding and successful experience!
