Commencement Spotlight: Xavier Moore, Associate of Science in Computer Science
Future Plans: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with Business Concentration, Albany State University
Xavier Moore, a 22-year-old native of Leesburg, Georgia, will graduate on May 9 with
an Associate of Science in Computer Science from the Albany State University College
of Arts and Sciences. 
During his time at Albany State, Moore gained valuable hands-on experience as a student intern in the university’s Division of Information Technology Services, where he supported technical operations and developed practical skills in the field.
Moore’s academic performance has been marked by excellence, graduating with distinction and earning a 3.5 GPA.
Following graduation, he will continue his education at Albany State University, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science with a concentration in business, further preparing for a career that bridges technology and innovation.
What motivated you to learn more about your field?
My passion for technology and its transformative potential in everyday life drove
me to delve deeper into the field of computer science. I am motivated by the challenge
of solving complex problems and creating solutions that make a meaningful impact.
Why did you choose ASU?
I chose Albany State University primarily because it is a Historically Black College
and University (HBCU). The supportive environment and commitment to academic excellence
appealed to my goals.
What do you love most about your chosen profession?
What I love most about the field of computer science is the continuous innovation
and the opportunity to work on projects that enhance productivity and efficiency.
The ever-evolving nature of technology keeps me excited about what I can contribute.
Who has made the biggest impact on you, and who do you consider to be a role model
at ASU?
My family has been my greatest source of inspiration. I owe gratitude to my mom, Dr.
Robin Moore, and my dad, Xavier Moore, for their support and encouragement throughout
my academic journey. My grandparents also instilled in me the values of hard work
and resilience.
Additionally, Dr. Seyed Roosta has served as a significant role model at ASU; his guidance and expertise have influenced my professional aspirations.
What are you passionate about outside of your education?
Outside of my academic pursuits, I am passionate about community service. I plan on
volunteering and providing mentorship to younger students interested in STEM, aiming
to inspire the next generation of innovators this summer.
What advice would you give to other ASU students?
My advice to fellow ASU students is to fully engage in all opportunities that come
your way. Participate in workshops, seek internships, and network with faculty and
peers; these experiences are invaluable in shaping your future career.
What would you say to a high school student about choosing ASU to further their education?
To a high school student contemplating their college choice, I would say that Albany
State University offers not just an education, but a community that will support you
in achieving your goals. The connections you make and the experiences you have here
will last a lifetime.
