Department of Social Work

Chair's Message

On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Department of Social Work at Albany State University, we warmly welcome you to our community of scholars, practitioners, and future leaders. Rooted in the rich traditions of Albany State University, a distinguished Historically Black College and University (HBCU), we embrace the values of community, service, resilience, heritage, and collective responsibility that have long strengthened families and communities throughout Georgia, the nation, and global communities of African descent and beyond.

Our Department is committed to preparing the next generation of Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) professionals to serve Southwest Georgia and beyond. Both the BSW and MSW programs have met the rigorous accreditation standards of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and are fully accredited.

Consistent with the mission and purpose of CSWE, we are dedicated to ensuring a well-educated social work profession equipped to advocate for and promote education, health, well-being, universal rights, and justice in a complex and interconnected world. We strive to prepare graduates who understand the importance of honoring the dignity and worth of all people, engaging respectfully across varied perspectives and lived experiences, and advancing equitable opportunities for individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.
