Frequently Asked Questions

 

ACCUPLACER is a suite of computer-adaptive tests to assess college readiness in Reading, Writing, and Math. The admissions office will determine if you are required to take all or just certain areas of the ACCUPLACER test. The results of the assessment, in conjunction with your academic background, will determine your admission to the school and your skill level in Math and English.

You may be tested in the following areas:

  • Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra & Statistics:  This 20 question untimed test will focus on computing with rational numbers, applying ratios & proportional reasoning, creating linear expressions & equations, graphing & applying linear equations, understanding probability & set notation, and interpreting graphical displays.  Personal calculators are not allowed.  A built-in calculator will be available for certain questions.  Scratch paper and pencils will be provided.  
  • Reading Comprehension: Through Reading passages, knowledge & skills area assessed in Information & Ideas, Rhetoric, Synthesis and Vocabulary.  This is a 20 question test.  
  • WritePlacer: The ACCUPLACER system provides one prompt to write a 60-minute essay. Your score is based on your ability to express, organize, and support your opinions and ideas.

If you are required to test, you are allowed two attempts within one year. Attempts at other schools may be counted. More information is available at on the Placement Retest information page.
