Fall 2020 Semester: Move-In

Dear ASU Students,

The campus housing move-in schedule will begin in August. Students must schedule a move-in reservation before arriving to campus. All persons on campus must be diligent in following the social distancing and health and safety protocols.

All faculty, staff, students, and visitors are strongly encouraged to wear a face covering. Wearing a face covering is a proven way to stop the spread of COVID-19. For your safety and the safety of others please wear a face covering.

You must adhere to the following:

  • If you feel sick, have any symptoms, could have been exposed or have been tested for COVID-19, do not come to campus.

  • Maintain the CDC recommended social distancing protocol (6 feet).

  • Wash your hands often and refrain from touching your face.

  • Arrive and leave as scheduled.

To maintain student safety; it will be critical that residents do not arrive on campus before their scheduled time.
We strongly encourage you to do everything possible to meet the appointment. However, if you have an unresolvable scheduling problem or you are sick, contact Housing & Residence Life at asuhousing@asurams.edu from your ASU email with your name, residence hall and room number, along with the reason you are unable to make your reservation.

All buildings have been cleaned and maintained in preparation for the return of students. Facilities Management will maintain the same cleaning procedures as in the past, with an increased frequency focused on common areas such as break rooms, rest rooms, lobby areas and other high traffic areas.

Before You Schedule Your Appointment:

  • If you are sick, please do not come and move-in. Email asuhousing@asurams.edu, with your name, RAM ID#, building number, and reason you won’t be able to make an appointment.

  • Only the 2 people listed on your appointment will be allowed in the residence hall with you.

  • Bring your RAM ID with you for check-in.

  • You will have up to 1 hour to check-in. Use your time wisely.

  • Do not arrive before your scheduled appointment.

  • Print out your confirmation page or show it on your mobile phone.

Campus Housing Move-in Procedures

  • At your scheduled time, it is important that you arrive at your residence hall check-in location. You will be allotted time (not to exceed 1 hour) to move into your room, starting at your scheduled time. Adhering to this schedule allows the next wave of residents the opportunity to arrive and begin their move in process.

  • It is extremely important you have your RAM ID with you. You will use your RAM ID to check in with staff and gain access to your residence hall and room.

  • Students must be present to move in; parents or other family members will not be provided access on behalf of a student.

  • You may bring no more than two individuals to help you unpack and settle into your room.

  • Find the Housing Move-In Logistics regarding directions, parking instructions and campus maps here.

Updated Housing & Residence Life Visitation Policy

A visitor is defined as a guest not assigned to that specific room, suite or apartment.

Visitation for the 2020-2021 academic year has been restricted to only current residents of any ASU residence halls.

There will be no overnight visitation, non-ASU residents are not allowed in residence halls at any time. If someone is coming to pick you up, they must wait outside and are not allowed in the residence halls. This includes lobbies and common areas.

Persons found in violation of this policy will face sanctions listed in the Student Code of Conduct.

  • Common rooms will be closed for fall semester. Only two students can use the kitchens and laundry facilities at a time.
  • Rooms have been reconfigured that no more than two residents share a bedroom.

Residential Experience

Residence halls will meet public health recommendations to ensure adequate space is available for quarantine housing. This means a shift in the residential experience as we will be applying new strategies to house students on campus. Strategies being considered are allowing students to move off-campus, supporting a longer commuter distance or offering supplemental housing at a nearby hotel. These strategies will be determined once students confirm campus housing preferences.

Students who live in the same suite or individual residence hall rooms as roommates will be considered “family units.” In addition, all first-year students will be housed in first-year residence halls. Some upper-class housing assignments will need to be adjusted.
