What is year-Round Pell Grant? The US Department of Education Appropriations Act, 2017, allows a student to receive Federal Pell Grant funds for up to 150 percent of the student’s Pell Grant Scheduled Award for an award year. This provision is effective beginning with the 2017-2018 award year for students attending the summer 2018 term at ASU.

The term “year-round Pell” refers to students eligible for Pell Grant that have already received a full-time Pell Grant award in the fall 2017 term and a full-time Pell Grant award in the spring 2018 term. Students who did not attend full-time in both terms may also be eligible for Pell Grant funds in the summer 2018 term, but these funds are not referred to as “year-round Pell”.

To be eligible for the additional year-round Pell Grant funds, a student must be otherwise eligible to receive Pell Grant funds for the payment period (summer 2018 term) and must be enrolled at least half-time in the payment period(s) (summer 2018 term) for which the student receives the additional year-round Pell Grant funds.
ASU will make your Year-Round Pell available in mid-April 2018. The available amount will be calculated based on your Pell Grant usage and remaining eligibility at the 100% scheduled award plus the additional 50% year-round Pell.

The amount of year-round Pell Grant award may vary per student. Below are a few examples to help illustrate how year-round Pell will be received:

Scenario 1:

  • Student A has a zero EFC and is eligible for a full Federal Pell Grant for the 17-18 aid year. Student A was enrolled full time for the fall and spring semesters and received full Pell disbursements based on credits enrolled. With the new implementation of SUMMER PELL; the student will now be eligible to receive a full disbursement in SUMMER.
