Teacher Education
Welcome to the Albany State University's Department of Teacher Education!
The Teacher Education program offers the Bachelor of Science degrees leading to certification
in Early Childhood Education, Middle Grades Education, Secondary Education with concentrations
in English Education, Health and Physical Education, Science Education, and Special
Education—Adaptive Curriculum. The Program also offers Master of Education degrees
that lead to certificate upgrades in Early Childhood Education, Middle Grades Education,
Special Education-General Curriculum, and Secondary Education with concentrations
in English, Mathematics, and Science. Additionally, candidates who possess a bachelor’s
degree from an accredited institution may also earn T-4 certification only in each
of the respective fields. Current in-service teachers may increase their marketability
by adding endorsements to their Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC) certificates.
The Department offers PSC approved endorsements in Reading, Gifted Education, K-5
Mathematics, and Online Learning.
The Department of Teacher Education embraces a culture of excellence and care. We
have structured our curriculum and field experiences to provide candidates with the
knowledge, skills and dispositions to become effective teachers and accomplished educators.
We have also created an atmosphere of tolerance that demonstrates to each candidate
that he or she is appreciated and his or her opinion is valued. As education is intertwined
with concepts of both nature and nurture, we strive to provide opportunities to model
these in the teaching and learning process to ensure candidates are prepared for today’s
diverse students and classrooms.
