Radiologic Program FAQs
The program is two years long or six semesters long. Courses taken prior to being
accepted will not shorten the length of the program. The program begins each year
in January and lasts through December of the following year. For example, if a student
began occupational courses in January 2016, he/she will complete the program in December
2017 (if there has been no interruption of program attendance).
The program accepts applicants once each year. Applications are due November 1st of each year. The applicants are determined after that and will begin occupational
courses the following January. The approximate number of enrollment at this time is
14. This number can change due to unforeseen circumstances or other reasons.
It is recommended that if work is unavoidable, that work schedules be part-time or
less. The program courses are sequential and have to be taken without interruption.
The program will require most of the student’s time and will need to be a top priority.
The program will basically be a full-time commitment with courses and clinicals comprising
4-5 days of the week with at least 8 hours each day. For example, first year students
will have classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and will have clinicals on
Tuesdays and Thursdays. Class and clinic hours can begin as early as 8:00 am and can
last until as late as 4:30 pm. Some (less than 25%) of the total clinic time can be
scheduled during evening or weekend hours.
First, applicants need to be accepted to Albany State University, successfully exit
Learning Support courses, and complete the program application process. Program admission
is competitive. Please read the application packet thoroughly. Applicants have to
have all documentation that will be used to determine selection submitted by November
1st. Applying to the program does not guarantee program admission
Students will rotate evenly through each clinical location. The program utilizes facilities
in Albany, Cordele, Americus, and Colquitt. The majority of the sites, however, are
located outside of Albany. Clinical hours will primarily be assigned from 8:00 am
until 4:30 pm. The majority of clinical assignments will occur during the daytime
hours, but some (less than 25% of total clinical time) will occur during evening (1:00
pm until 9:00 pm) hours or on the weekend (day or evening hours). Students will be
informed of clinical assignments locations and times at the beginning of each semester
to allow for necessary arrangements. Students are responsible for all expenses incurred
for clinicals (transportation to and from sites, fuel, food, lodging if necessary).
First year students typically will be assigned to clinicals two days each week (Tuesdays
and Thursdays, and second year students will be assigned to clinicals three days each
week (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays).
