What motivated you to learn more about your field? Da'Mela Thomas Headshot

Before coming to ASU, I knew nothing about supply chain and logistics. Upon my arrival, I was handed a pamphlet to read on the field. I did the research and fell in love. The field was everything I love bundled together in one group. Dr. Juan Jaramillo, Dr. Damitha Bandara and Mr. Wallace Rich started The Center for Advance Logistics Management (CALM) which allowed students to do different projects and internships. These events helped me gain knowledge and experience in the field.

 Why did you choose ASU?

I chose ASU because ASU embodies the core education and business values that I believe in and use in my career to this very day.  The professors at ASU treat everyone like family. They know you by name and ensure you are getting the best education possible. I love my alma mater.

What do you love most about your chosen profession?

I love the challenges I face daily. There is never a dull moment in the field. It brings a smile when I am faced with a challenge and I feel the rush to ensure I can perform the task in a safe and timely manner.

Who has made the biggest impact on you and who do you consider to be a role model at ASU?

My father has made the biggest impact on my life.  My father constantly discussed the importance of having an education and following my dreams. My father also encouraged me to be confident and to never give up. Although facing the loss of my father was not easy, I am very proud to say that I am continuing on the path of success by graduating from ASU.

My role model at ASU would be Dr. Damitha Bandara.

What advice would you give to other ASU students?

Networking is the key to success. Always have your resume and business card close for exchange with individuals. Remember to always send a follow-up email after ever encounter you have during your undergrad years.

What would you say to a high school student about choosing ASU to further their education?

Come to ASU and focus on your education and nothing more. ASU will make you feel like you are a part of a family. If you need help, ask questions because the professors are there to help.
