ASU faculty showcase outstanding academic work during Faculty Research and Scholarship Day

Faculty Scholarship and Research DayALBANY – Albany State University (ASU) recently hosted its first Faculty Research and Scholarship Day as an opportunity to highlight scholarship among faculty members.

The event, held March 29 and hosted by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, recognized faculty members  who  conducted research from 2017-2018. Featured research included over 120 scholarly publications of peer reviewed journal articles, book chapters, books and juried creative opportunities.  In addition, faculty and staff members that secured grant funding were also recognized. Grant funding exceeded $18 million dollars during the specified time frame.

“The Albany State Faculty Research and Scholarship Recognition Day is a welcome new addition to the University,” said Ulf Kirchdorfer ASU professor of English. “Not only does it highlight a tremendous amount of research and scholarship that is often flying under the radar, but it promises to build a community of teachers as scholars who now can engage. “The likely end result will be more scholarship and excitement for the classroom as well as academic fields meeting to form interdisciplinary scholarship alliances.”

The ceremony featured eight “Lightning Talks” where select faculty presented their research in seven-minute presentations.

The ceremony ended with an informal poster session with refreshments, during which participants could engage with faculty researchers to learn more about the ongoing research at ASU.
