ASU welcomes future Golden Rams at 2019 Spring Open House
ALBANY – Albany State University (ASU) welcomed 2,100 prospective students and family members
on Saturday, March 2 to the institution’s Spring Open House. The event provided a
first-hand look at the benefits of becoming a Golden Ram.
“The goal of this year’s open house was for all of our guests to leave knowing that
Albany State University is their University,” said Kenyatta Johnson, vice president
of Enrollment Management and Success.
Students from Southwest Georgia, the Atlanta area, Macon, Warner Robins, Savannah and other areas visited the campus. Erica Williams traveled with her daughter Keyondra Williams from McDonough, Georgia to attend the event.
“From the check in process to every friendly face that we see, she’s home. I’m loving
it,” Erica Williams said.
During the event, participants learned more about all ASU academic programs. In addition,
ASU faculty and staff members discussed admission requirements and the financial aid
process.
“Open House is Albany State University’s premier program for prospective students, their families, and the community to experience the best of the University,” Johnson said. "The program provides a chance to learn about our institution, our degree programs, the admissions process, tour the campus and meet our students, faculty, staff and alumni who will share experiences and perspectives on the opportunities ASU offers that lead to success.”
An added benefit to this year’s event was the opportunity for 12 lucky students to receive on-the-spot general and book scholarships from the ASU Foundation. Scholarship notices were placed under the seats of participants throughout the HPER Gymnasium. There were 10 $100 book rewards and two $500 general rewards.
“After speaking with our vice president for Enrollment Management and Student Success, we realized that we should begin making investments in our students as soon as possible,” said A.L. Fleming, vice president of Institutional Advancement and executive director of the ASU Foundation. “The scholarship dollars we presented will go a long way to help to secure the enrollment of students.”
Keyondra, who is a senior at Luella High School in Henry County, said it was her second visit to Albany State, and it is always a friendly and busy atmosphere on campus, she said.
“I want to major in business. I heard that the business program is great and that’s what made me interested in attending the school in the first place. Every time we come here, it’s always something going on. I really like it here," Keyondra said.
Attendees also toured campus, received information from campus organizations, ate lunch, and received detailed information from academic programs. The next Open House is scheduled for Fall 2019.
